It all began with an idea. One night in Boston at a Lil Uzi Vert & G-Eazy concert in 2018. Jacob looked around and realized everyone here has a story. Everyone here is going through something and nowhere to talk about it. He thought, why not create a blog or vlog to tell his experiences through being a professional soccer player & traveling the world. This was before Covid when everyone created a podcast. So a blog or vlog seemed like the way to go. Jacob sat on the idea for about a year; throwing the idea in front of people here & there. Thinking what would the name be and would people even listen.
One night out celebrating his cousin’s birthday in November 2018, Jacob and a friend Q were talking about the podcast and the name “How’d I Get Here” was birthed. That was it, that was the name that would stick & it was perfect.
Fast forward to Spring of 2019. Jacob, Elijah & Elijah’s girlfriend were sitting in Jacob’s 3rd floor apartment. Jacob had just “retired” from playing soccer for the 1st time & had an adult job. With all this money & free time he wasn’t sure what to do with it. Elijah & his girlfriend convinced him to open a Best Buy credit card & go buy a laptop, mic and all the equipment he would need. The very next day he did.
And just like that in the Summer of 2019 the very first episode of “The How’d I Get Here” Podcast was birthed. The original episodes were only audio and it wasn’t until Winter of 2020 the first visual episodes came about.

How Its going
Throughout the years, the podcast has had a few different CoHosts & videographers but the vision & mission has remained the same, to create a safe and comfortable environment for people to have uncomfortable conversations to help be their best self. We went from topics revolving around Jacob’s professional soccer career & life to interviewing local entrepreneurs to figure out how they got to where they are today. Today the podcast consists of the perfect blend of tough conversations, local guests controversial takes and a fun healthy atmosphere.
December 5, 2020 the first visual episode aired now making the podcast available on all streaming platforms. Spencer would join the team as a CoHost in 2021 and has remained since bringing a spicy, fun & different perspective from Jacob. Summer of 2022 brought another team member in Bryan as our official videographer. His expertise propelled the quality of all visuals. Fall of 2022 brought Ash. Our producer turned 3rd CoHost. An invaluable member to the team for many reasons.
In March of 2021 we did our first live episode with an audience. I’m not sure we ever thought the podcast would be here. But it would be the first event like this in the Hartford area. Today we’ve done 4 successful live events with each one being bigger than the one before.
Where We’re going
Today we record weekly and release episodes every Monday.
We have dedicated our time to being more visible in the community. We aim to begin doing monthly community events, whether it be happy hours, networking events, health fairs and more. We want to build and create community. Our emphasis will be on continuing to create the same and comfortable environment that we’ve created through our episodes on a larger platform.
We will continue to do quarterly live events as well as break into the public speaking realm in the public and college school systems. We will also aim to teach podcast classes to give the youth a voice and give them the same opportunity we have given many others which is a platform to speak your truth.
